Our lives are busier than they have ever been. There are deadlines to make, relationships to keep up, a long commute with longer hours sitting at your desk, mouths to feed and you finally fall asleep only to shortly wake up and do it again!
It’s time to slow down. For your current health, your children’s health and your future health, it’s time we began practicing a few traditional food methods to create a happier gut which creates a happier mind and body so you can keep up with your never ending to do list.
The following are dietary suggestions all humans can implement for a healthier body. Every day we can choose food that will create health or create illness. Many traditional foods have great healing powers that we are currently missing. No, they are no longer the “norm” and you may not love them on the first try, but making a few changes will create a healthier you from the inside out.
Fermented Foods
Traditionally, foods were fermented so they kept longer without refrigeration. Fermentation of foods results in easier digestions, bioavailability of more nutrients and probiotics. From pickles and sauerkraut to kefir and kombucha, it’s all good for you! Talk to your grandmother or the elderly lady down the street. I bet she would be able to teach you how to make these products in your own kitchen. She might even be willing to share her fermented cod liver oil with you.
Organ Meats and Bone Broth
Did you know before butcher shops and modern food choices, many cultures saved animal organs for human consumption and gave the muscle meat to the dogs? They inherently knew that organ meats were nature’s super foods. Loaded with more vitamins and minerals than any other food on the planet, organ meat’s are your natural daily vitamin. They are inexpensive, too! Add in bone broth for more minerals and joint support than your daily calcium vitamin and you’ll be ready to run around with the grandkids!
Keep it simple
Last, but not least, keep it simple. Meals don’t have to be complicated. Quality meats, veggies and fat are more than enough for a complete, nourishing meal at any time of the day.
