Book Club: Great Reads for 2025

Another year of books! Here were my top reads. At the end, you'll find links to all of my favorite books from years past. Happy reading!

The Women by Kristin Hannah - I really love reading Kristin Hannah books and this one is now my favorite. It take place during the Vietnam War which I wasn't too familiar with prior. If you like historical fiction or the work of Kristin Hannah, I highly highly recommend this one. Probably the best book I read all year. Once I finished this one, I followed it up with Healing Wounds by Diane Carlson Evans, who was one of the women whose story this book was based on.

Dark Calories by Cate Shanahan - I've read many, many nutrition books over the past two decades. Cate Shanahan's, Deep Nutrition, is one of my favorites, especially when it comes to mom's nutrition choices and the affect it has on her children. This book was unlike any I have ever read and it had studies and information I hadn't seen before. I immediately bought it for my dad who enjoys reading about nutrition as much as I do. It also resulted is me making extra changes to my family's diet. If your are looking to improve your health through diet, this is the book I will now start recommending first. Game changer.

Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas - Someone told me this was their favorite series from Sarah J Maas. It's her first series and I had read her others and loved them. I was skeptical that this one would be better. And after reading the first book, I was really skeptical. However, two people told me to get to the second book and I would not regret it. Guess what? I DID NOT REGRET IT. It is now my favorite series also. It's less smutty than the other two, which I appreciate because I seem to be a bit of a prude the older I get. #MomLife

Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery - I suspect I never read this book growing up because it's Canadian. It was wonderful! I wanted to read a few classics this year and I chose this one. If you have a preteen in the house, get this book! It's really fun. The character, Anne, is a hoot.

Hunt, Gather, Parent by Michaeleen Doucleff - I'm always reading child development and parenting books these days. This one was my favorite this year. I love any books that take an evolutionary approach and this one does just that. Parenting is hard. Hearing how other people and cultures approach it is very helpful to me. If you think it would be helpful for you, too, check out this book.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss - I'm a sucker for for rhyming books and Dr. Seuss is one of the best. I have seen the Grinch movie and most of us are familiar with the character, but I'm not sure if I actually read the book until this year. Other Suess favorites of mine this year were Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?, Dr. Suess's A B Cs and The Foot Book, all of which also come in shorter board books and can often be found at the thrift store.

2021 (It says "part I", turns out it was the only part - all of my favorite books were read in the first half of the year!)

I typically rent my books from the library. If you want to buy them, I really recommend checking out ABEbooks or BookOutlet. The links above take you my Amazon affiliate pages.
