Why Should I Take a Multi-Vitamin?

No supplement can ever replace an optimal diet. So, you choose to eat plenty of vegetables and fruit, quality proteins and fats and drink clean water. Perfect, you’re on the right track. Unfortunately, our food supply today is not of the quality it once was. Farming practices have changed, fertilizers and pesticides have become prevalent and an apple today has a fraction of the nutrients that an apple contained just 50 years ago.

This is where a multivitamin comes in. Lifemark Nature Park Way sells a whole food based supplement from Douglas Labs called Ultra Preventive X. It is made from whole organic cruciferous vegetables and packed with vitamins, minerals and trace elements, leading you to a well rounded, properly supported diet.

And guess what? You get what you pay for. Vitamins and supplements are not regulated by the FDA. This is good and bad. It’s good because it means you don’t need to see your medical doctor to enhance your health naturally. It’s bad because it means any Joe Schmoe can create a vitamin and sell it. It doesn’t have to contain what it says it contains because no one has to check up on it. Trustworthy supplement companies generally sell only to healthcare practitioners because they are spending the extra money in having their product tested by a third party and following strict guidelines. Many supplements you see at your local drug store have more fillers than nutrients and are generally useless. When it comes to supplements, pay more for quality or skip it all together.

Alas, as the name implies, supplements are just that; supplemental to our current diets. You cannot out supplement a poor diet. Once our food choices are sound, vitamins are used to enhance our health. Take your health to the next level with a quality multi-vitamin.
